Modern electronic controls are traditionally housed in large enclosures or cabinets – and sometimes desks or other custom panels which form a major barrier to unauthorised interference, as well as playing a significant part in ensuring operator safety. A particular issue with electronic machine controls for example is seen in applications such as those covered by Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, section 22.214.171.124 – which covers movable guards and mandates an interlocking device that prevents the start of hazardous machinery functions until they are closed, by giving a command whenever they are no longer closed. Fortunately for engineers seeking to ensure compliance our CFSQ hinge is often exactly what they need.
These CFSQ hinges cover use in Safety Integrity Level 1 (SIL1) to IEC 62061 and Performance Level PLb (PLb) to EN ISO 13849-1 applications and work so as to switch off equipment when a door or panel is opened. This is a great aid in industrial environments where it helps to ensure operator safety. Alternatively the CFSQ may be used to remotely indicate status, e.g. for access monitoring. Construction is an integral glass reinforced technopolymer unit ensuring a tamper-proof installation and easy assembly.
CFSQ hinges fit with countersunk screw fixings for optimum strength and security and are offered with either top mount cable connection or rear mounting connector and appropriate leads to suit either the machine control or status indication role.
The CFSQ switching hinge, normally paired with the standard CFM hinge, provides 180° opening with switching operation over the range 6° to 15°. The hinge is compliant with EN60947-5-1 with the switch and contacts sealed to IP67.
Similarly the CFSW-110 IP67 180° hinge which has been designed with its own built-in multiple safety switch, in order that in the event of accidental opening of a control cabinet door, machine panel or safety door, it automatically shuts off the power and protects the operators of machinery and production equipment. The CFSW is paired with its equivalent mechanical hinge, the CFMW-110 which facilitates a tough, safe installation. The CFSW is double insulated and approved by IMQ in compliance with IEC EN 60947-5-1 and IEC EN 60947-5-2 and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in compliance with UL: E360222.l. It is available with different combinations of contacts with positive opening (2NO+2NC, 1NO+3NC etc.). These robust units are tested to a B10d value of 2,000,000, are totally tamper-proof, and may be quickly and easily installed. Standard connections are 8 pole connector or 8 core cable in 2m or 5m lengths. 180 degree opening is normal but other operating angles may be specified.
For large electronic cabinets additional security comes with the CL+C and CLT series latch locks which offer swing handle operation with rod lock multi-point closure. The CL+C swing handle latch is ideal for lockers and cabinets requiring a compact easy to operate locking system with simple door mounting and galvanised rod operation at low cost.
Features of the CL+C handle include standard cylinder keys or double wing type keys, in addition sealing to IP65 is achievable with a protective plug and sealing washer, where water ingress is considered a problem. Door closure is effected with a double rod system using galvanised steel rods of 1000mm length with technopolymer edge rollers and rod guides at 500mm intervals.
Together with the bright nickel finished base and black glass reinforced technopolymer handle, this provides an attractive and effective door closure system.
For smaller enclosures housing electronic instrumentation in the industrial environment Elesa expertise in cabinet locking is demonstrated across the range with quarter-turn locks such as the CQ and CSL series IP65 latches which incorporate an ingenious quick assembly spring clip mechanism to accommodate door panel thicknesses from 1mm to 2mm with a simple insert and press fitting process – no lock nuts are required as the saw tooth springs take up the recessing adjustment and lock the unit in place.
Double bar and triangular key inserts are complimented with a cylinder lock version. The CQTL and CSL versions also incorporate an integral finger pull handle to ease door opening. Latching cams are supplied complete assembled in a variety of depths to facilitate use of different doors and frame combinations. Also the technopolymer CQT range latches with recessed keys which are suitable for environments corrosive to other materials as they resist solvents, oils, greases and many other chemical agents, as well as being certified self-extinguishing to UL 94 V-O.
Stainless steel versions of the CQ lock offer 90º opening and IP65 protection. They are ideal for corrosive environments such as food equipment or wet locker rooms where lower grade materials may have a limited life.
The stainless steel CQ Inox locks come in two types, each with two closing lever possibilities to suit different door/frame depths. AISI 304 stainless is used throughout for strength and corrosion resistance – this coupled with an SBR rubber retaining washer makes the CQ Inox range ideal for many harsh environments.
We have found that our permanent magnets are frequently used as a simple way of providing temporary fixing for workpieces, instruments, gauges, covers, doors, signs or drawers. They offer a range of closure from low to extremely high adhesive force in a very small footprint – giving easy manual placement or concealed closure if required. Temporary fixing with high power magnets can provide permanent solutions, quickly adjusted or removed completely.
For example, our high quality permanent magnets in sintered hard ferrite, Aluminium nickel cobalt (AINiCo), Samarium cobalt (SmCo) and Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) are structured to have one adhesive surface only with poles optimized and arranged in such a way that the whole magnetic energy is focused on the adhesive surface. The effect in the area of the magnetic field is limited by a shielded system, avoiding the magnetization of the surrounding objects.
Neodymium magnets are ideal for location and temporary fixing of workpieces or panels or for sensor holding, e.g. on conveyors or other machinery. Moving down the scale applications can be as varied as supermarket labelling, locating presentation materials, white boards, cabinet door closure or magnetic filtration, e.g. of metal particles in engine sumps or in machinery and equipment.
These high quality permanent magnets are available in flat format with or without, steel or stainless steel housings in lacquer or thermoplastic coating and in cylinder format with brass housed sandwich configuration. U Magnets and cylinder magnets in red lacquer with pass-through facility are also part of the standard series.
Whenever machines and equipment vibrate – whether they be motor driven or conveyors for fragile assemblies, then our range of vibration damping elements can serve to cushion the vibrational energy. This leads to greater operator comfort, greater accuracy, reduced damage and longer lifetimes with reduced maintenance.
The DVA range is formed in natural rubber in cylindrical and conical formats based on zinc/steel and AISI 304 stainless mounts with male or female attachments. They have been designed to damp vibrations, shocks and noises produced by moving bodies or vibrating masses which can cause malfunctioning and reduction of the machine lifespan and/or of the adjacent equipment, or even operator damage to health. The DVA range is available in black natural rubber to standard hardness 55 Shore A, as well as 40 Shore A or 70 Shore A to custom specifications.
LM and LW series vibration damping levelling feet address vibrational problems by isolating sensitive equipment from outside sources – or by reducing energy transfer originating from unbalanced rotational equipment – perhaps in co-operation with internal damping elements such as the DVA series.
Other applications include mounting of impact machines or equipment with two-way movement, e.g. on reversible slide mechanisms. The LM and LW series feature a natural rubber foot base in either steel or stainless steel adjustable levelling feet.
Our new MLP reinforced polyamide handles are designed to protect the user while lifting boxes, cases, equipment etc. Their aesthetic design allows them to visually blend into equipment while their rounded form minimises vulnerability to damage.
MLP handles are ergonomically designed for use in pairs with concealed fitment from the rear by means of M4 screws or no. 2 self-tapping screws – either with inserts or blind holes. Construction is in moulded black technopolymer with a max lifting capability of 3500 N.
Our new PPR series of support clamps provide a quick and robust mounting method for plain panels or wire mesh as an aid to ensuring compliance with machine safety requirements such as ISO 13857 para 4.2.4. They are also suitable for architectural panels and similar, e.g. for stair panels, partitions, balconies etc.
PPR clamps suit standard 1″ square tube without drilling and come with, or without, internal vibration damping rubber grip pads for plain panels, or with locking teeth to suit electro-welded mesh type TEC® (max. wire dia. 3mm).
Construction is in tough glass reinforced polyamide with flush mounted M5 AISI 304 stainless steel fittings.

These new HVF in line visual flow indicators compliment our well-known range of hydraulic accessories. They are a simple, cost-effective means of checking correct operation of many fluid systems and so protecting associated equipment from the consequences of flow stoppages.
The HVF may be mounted in any position, where it offers a 360° view. This simple, cost-effective and maintenance free unit operates with flow in either direction, while its unusual axial impeller design ensures minimal pressure loss in use.
Operation at up to 100°C working temperature and application with a wide range of liquids – including glycol based solutions, is ensured by its rugged construction in Pyrex and polypropylene.
AISI 316 stainless steel bosses, NPT conical threads and blue rotor options are available on request.

Our new range of circular toothed clamping plates enable quick, accurate and robust positioning of equipment which may be fixed permanently or then quickly changed if required and indexed for dis-assembly and re-assembly. They provide adjustment in 6° increments for correct angular alignment of instruments, frames, lighting units, disability equipment and similar.
All feature a two bolt base mounting with central locking to suit studs or machine screws – with an internal push spring which aids adjustment by separating the two parts so as to facilitate rotation as required.

“Where did I put that knob?” – well we have the answer – by putting a chain on our VCT-LP lobe knobs we have ensured that these vital clamping components need never be lost in the course of adjustment or disassembly/assembly.
The VCT range of male/female lobe knobs are a proven effective means of clamping components, workpieces, frames, disability equipment etc. with quick manual operation. Now the LP version of this series incorporates a simple modification with fitting of a retaining chain.
As with the rest of the VCT range the VCT-LP features an easy to use 5 lobe design in high resilience black polypropylene now fitted with a free spinning retaining fork and chain. The chain is easily fitted to the equipment with a 4.8mm self-tapping screw or similar.
Lobe knobs in the VCT-LP series are available in 25mm to 63mm dia. sizes and M5 to M12 thread sizes.
Our new GFL lobe nut enables adjustment of equipment mounted on threaded stems and may be used singly to lock against another threaded component or in pairs to lock a tubular bracket in place.
The GFL locks brackets etc. in a specific position while enabling quick toolless re-adjustment – it is carefully designed for a comfortable hand grip and manufactured in glass fibre reinforced polyamide with brass threaded boss, which also ensures smooth operation on studs in a variety of materials. Thread sizes of M8 and M10 are available in a seven lobe moulding of 40mm diameter.
Our new DD52R-E fits larger 20mm dia. shafts while offering IP65 or IP67 sealing for arduous environments on industrial equipment of all kinds where high accuracy measurement of shaft position is required. This enables machine setting, counting or position monitoring to be achieved while providing an excellent easy to read six digit display that is legible in any position, with an 8 year battery life.
The flexibility of electronic menu setup allows the DD52R-E to be customised for orientation, absolute or incremental read-out, in metric or imperial – or for angular display in degrees, while of course being re-programmable at any time to suit a new application or new process.
The high degree of dust and water protection at IP65 or IP67 means that the unit is suitable for applications that require frequent wash-down, even with high power water jets, e.g. in food, pharmaceutical or similar environments.
