Detent position hinges know their place.

The new CFV range of glass reinforced polyamide hinges are great at “knowing their place” – just open the door for them to click-and-hold in any of four positions. This feature allows unimpeded access to equipment where otherwise nuisance door closure would be experienced, perhaps from wind gusts or from gravity.
The CFV hinges may be mounted with either countersunk head or hex head screws – they feature four detent positions of -90°, 0°, +70° and +115°, all detent positions providing a resistant torque of 3 Nm which is the torque required to free the detent device – and is tested to 20,000 operations.

Comprehensive Hinging with Whitepaper

We are delighted to have increased our range of plastic, metal and stainless steel hinges with many standard variants, including specialist types so that the range now includes:
The CF series – with the CF itself offering tamper-proof and double pivot hinges, as well as the CFH type in especially common sizes, and the ½ size CFG. Opening angles of 0-90°, 0-270° and 0-335° are provided in a piano hinge style but in larger sizes – this gives a unique interlaced appearance. The CFA/F offers blind fixing with a 90° stop to prevent over-opening of adjacent doors. Coupled with this, Elesa now offer the CFM surface mount hinge in reinforced polyamide based technopolymer and a companion version in die-cast zinc alloy. CFM hinges offer a variety of fixing methods and a full 270° opening for situations where it is useful to fold a door or access hatch fully out of the way.
Elesa engineers, always renowned for innovation, have taken a new look at the humble hinge and now have a patent pending on the CFP hinge which has 3 pre-determined settings to allow fixed but temporary positioning of guards, doors, flaps or panels at 80°, 120° or 170°. Each position is held by a simple click spring mechanism, ensuring that one-handed operation is easily achieved, keeping the panel in position for ease of access in installation or maintenance.
A significant step toward equipment safety and integration is demonstrated by the CFS hinge for hazardous areas which has a built-in security switch to suit Category 1 areas and works so as to switch off equipment when a door or panel is opened. This is a great aid in industrial environments where it helps to ensure operator safety. Alternatively, the CFS may be used to remotely indicate status, e.g. for access monitoring. Construction is an integral glass reinforced technopolymer unit ensuring a tamper-proof installation and easy assembly.
Similarly, hinges with adjustable friction are a simple and really simple solution which allows users to set the opening force of the door so that it may stay partially open, or will dampen down the action of the wind in outdoor situations.
Elesa die-cast hinges are suited to all applications where greater strength and rigidity are required for doors on cabinets, panels or access hatches in the electrical, heating and ventilating or machine tool industries. The range offers hinge sizes in 40mm, 50mm or 60mm formats and features matt black epoxy coating with stainless steel hinge pins. Operation is to a maximum of 270°, which ensures full access by virtue of a wide angular opening, and fitment is easily achieved by use of 5mm, 6mm or 8mm countersunk bolts.
CMM hinges are in matt black finish with either studs or countersunk fittings and in sizes 40mm, 50mm and 60mm – their lay-on flap style design permits full 180° opening. Sister variant CMZ has the unusual feature of slotted hole fixings for cylindrical head screws which allows for a significant measure of adjustment up, down, or in rotation. The CMM-SST range of lay-on stainless steel hinges is designed for use on doors, panels and cases in the food and pharmaceutical industries – where their corrosion-resistance and easy-clean electro-polished finish will be much appreciated.
Of especial interest to designers and installers is likely to be the White Paper: Guidelines for the Application of Plastic Hinges which details the many parameters involved with guidance on their use.

CFU 270° hinges with adjustable friction
Hinges tend to be simple things, but occasionally a company such as Elesa comes along with a really useful and rather different idea. In this case a screw adjustable friction setting, which allows users to set the opening force of the door so that it may stay partially open, or will dampen down the action of the wind in outdoor situations.
The Elesa CFU series hinges are manufactured in black technopolymer with a rotation range of 270°. Friction adjustment is simply achieved by operation of a centrally mounted screw – clockwise for more friction, anti-clockwise for less. A simple but clever extension to the expected features of normal hinges.

STANDARD COMPONENTS FOR PRINTING AND PAPER PROCESSING MACHINES
We have found that our catalogue incorporates many standard components ideally suited to machines within the printing and paper processing industries. In particular the DD52 series digital shaft position indicators, adjustable and vibration damping levelling feet, GN727 micrometer adjustable control knobs, GN700 continuous locking components and the CFA series plastic hinges which suit many types of machine guards.
The Elesa DD51 and DD52 direct drive Digital Position indicators are 4 and 5 digit sealed case units in a high impact technopolymer housing which is ultrasonically welded making them ideal for shaft drive position readouts in industrial environments. This aspect is further enhanced by the availability of an additional front seal to prevent ingress of dust in arduous conditions to a level of IP67, and of stainless steel reduction sleeves. Reduction sleeves allow the shaft size accommodated to go from 14mm down to 6mm in the DD51 and from 20mm to 12mm in the DD52.
Where delicate manual control is vital, then sensitive micrometer adjustment can be provided by the new Elesa GN727 in either flange or side mounting formats. The GN727 provides accurate control of spindles, lead screws etc with either precise adjustment or alignment to a positive stop position. Operation has been achieved without backlash for smooth forward/reverse transitions in either 10 or 15 rotation mode – with each rotation corresponding to one millimetre and each of 50 graduations on the adjuster knob corresponding to 0.02mm.
The unusual Elesa CFA/F is an external multi-leaf thermoplastic hinge with inbuilt 90º stop. It is ideal for machine guards, small equipment housings, or for access doors where the opening angle must not exceed 90º. The 90º door stop feature may be important in many situations to prevent a door interfering with other nearby equipment, or to prevent excessive opening in windy conditions. The system is safe and secure for operator’s hands as it is a built-in function of the hinge mechanism, thus leaving the operator free to work on the machine or equipment.

GUIDELINES FOR THE APPLICATION OF PLASTIC HINGES
There are a wide range of plastic hinges on the market and often it is necessary to put a significant weight of equipment on even small doors, therefore the following notes are offered as a guide to choosing a convenient type and the correct number of hinges appropriate to the door being hinged. Technical designers should consider the values Er, Ea, E90 tabulated in the data sheet of every Elesa plastic hinge. Maximum working load (Er, Ea, E90) is the value at which elastic deformation remains neglectable during functioning. Load at breakage (Rr, Ra, R90) should be used for safety verification, if required. More………

hinging for the MACHINERY DIRECTIVE
Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC became effective on 29th December 2010 with section 1.4.2.2 covering movable guards, which must be associated with an interlocking device that prevents the start of hazardous machinery functions until they are closed by giving a command whenever they are no longer closed. Fortunately for engineers seeking to ensure compliance – Elesa’s CFS hinge could well be exactly what you need.
The CFS hinge specification covers use in hazardous areas to Cat 1 and works so as to switch off equipment when a door or panel is opened. Alternatively the CFS may be used to remotely indicate status, e.g. for access monitoring. Construction is an integral glass reinforced technopolymer unit ensuring a tamper-proof installation and easy assembly.
Two variants are available – the CFS-SH with countersunk screw fixings for optimum strength and security – and the CVS-CH with slotted fixing for easy adjustment. Each one is offered with either top mount cable connection or rear mounting connector and appropriate leads to suit either the machine control or status indication role.
The CFS switching hinge, normally paired with the standard CFM hinge, provides 180° opening with switching operation over the range 4° to 15°. It meets EN60204-1, EN6097-5-1, EN60529 and GS-ET15 with the switch and contacts sealed to IP65 – for indoor use.
